Obituary for Christi Lee "Chris" Corcoran

Christi Lee Corcoran ā€" October 9, 1952 ā€" May 17, 2009

Born in Bellingham, WA to Mother, Gayle Landreth, her biological father, Ed Corcoran, and adopting father, Don Landreth. Chris was the first born of the 5th generation of our family to live in Whatcom County. She grew up in Maple Falls, WA and attended Mt. Baker Jr./Sr. High School.
Christi died of ovarian cancer.
Before her diagnosis she worked in dispatch at Northwood Casino. Most of her life, however, she worked in the retail industry and did side work as a home decorator. Her favorite jobs entailed doing marketing displays and decorating. Her most recent retail work was at Bakerview Nursery, The Greenhouse, Village Lighting, Alsum and Bode Furniture, Penneyā€™s and the Bon Marche Furniture Store.
After her death a note she wrote was found saying, ā€œI want to spend my 40 hours a week doing something that makes me feel successful and useful. I want to be allowed to interact with the world with my doors open. I want to be creativeā€.
She was passionately curious about science and the natural world. Her spontaneous personality led her to places she claimed must be ā€˜the top of the worldā€™ and into the most beautiful canyons of National Parks and Forests all over the western United States and Canada. Waking up in a tent or a camper van usually meant she would be smiling all day!
She was a natural at home dĆ©cor, devoured all kinds of books, and enjoyed art ā€" both by doing and in appreciation. Aesthetics and artful expression were always an essential part of her being, from creating displays of some of Earthā€™s most beautiful semi-precious gems or natureā€™s other wonders to refurbishing shabby furniture to decorating many, many homes and gardens. The year before she died she discovered a talent for creating whimsical pen and ink drawings using pointillism.
Christi needed a lot of inspiration, strength and perseverance to fight her very aggressive form of cancer and it was the deep and unconditional love of her grandchildren, Gage, Jordan and Samantha that kept her going.
